  Augie
Sponsor Me

Augie

Augie doggie is looking for a daddy or a mommy. He was named after a 60's cartoon character and a character he is indeed.  This wonderful gentle soul demands nothing except love and more love.  Augie, though a beagle by birth, is also part snugglehound.  Give him a bed and a biscuit and he's in heaven.  Augie is approx 7 years old and loves to share a pillow with you.  He gets along with all cats and dogs, but is especially fond of  2-legged critters.

Augie will probably be at Oasis permanently because he can't seem to find the bathroom.  Oh well, I guess he will need a sponsor to help him get a lifetime supply of Depends.

Brownie
Sponsor Me

Brownie

Brownie was rescued from years of living on the end of a five foot chain in Brooklyn. He was confined to a small, rundown wooden doghouse, denied vet care or love. His only visitors were neighbors passing by on their way to work. A rescuer approached his negligent owner and negotiated Brownie's release. A visit to the vet followed, and today he's enjoying new-found freedom, unchained for the first time in years. This healthy, energetic six-year-old American Staffie mix is now taking daily walks, playing fetch and experiencing the kind of life a dog is born to live. Brownie is working on basic commands and leash training. If you'd like to be his new best friend and help him make up for lost time, please give us a call.

  Bubbles
Sponsor Me

Bubbles

This jolly effervescent critter has added a sparkle to everyone at oasis.

He's a great doggie and loves to eat anything and he has a penchant for singing arias in the middle of the night.  Ergo, he has found a permanent venue for his singing talent at Oasis.

If you are interested in funding his singing career, please sponsor Bubbles now.  Act now and we will send you a recording of his “songs" on disc or mp3.

  Clive
Sponsor Me

Clive

Clive is alive and well at Oasis.  Our wonderful husky critter has got a lot of love – for people and as you can see, for food too!

About four years ago, Clive lost his home in Massachusetts.  While the circumstances around Clive’s displacement were not exactly clear, it is rumored that he ate his family out of house and home,

Like the phrase what goes up must go down, in Clive’s case it is more like what goes in must come out. Therein lies the problem – not so much as what comes out - but where he puts it!  No one at Oasis minds picking up after him, so if you can get Clive to read Amy Vanderbilt’s book, then he’s the dog for you!

  Falafel
Sponsor Me

Falafel

Falafel. This pretty boy is constantly mistaken for a pretty girl – he is as beautiful as he is loveable.

Unfortunately Falafel suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder after being sequestered and interviewed by Homeland Security because of his name.  Poor Falafel.  He told them that they are mistaken, that he is not from the Middle East but from Middle Village Queens!.

Falafel fervently denied any Islamist ties stating, “I am not even Muslim, I am a mongrel.” Falafel has since undergone extensive psycho/biscuit therapy and appears to be doing well.  Occasionally he has flashbacks of his experience and gets pissed off (literally!).

Falafel:  nothing that a lot of love and a mop can’t handle.

  Flaco
Sponsor Me

Flaco

Flaco is an older fella.  He was found ten years ago under a car in a bad neighborhood in the Bronx. On discovery, Eddie Rizzo and Eddie Lama thought he was dead.  Much to their surprise, he was not dead, but was, in fact, just fixing his car like the rest of the neighborhood.  Flaco was kicked out because he was a better mechanic than the rest of his family.

Years of fixing cars have taken a toll on his back and although he has difficulty walking, he is faring well with medication.

If you wish to sponsor Flaco, he would be most grateful.  He may not be able to fix your car anymore, but he will definitely fix your spirit.

  Frank Zappa
Sponsor Me

Frank Zappa

The cloven-hoofed spiritual curmudgeon

Frank is not only a goat; he is Eddie’s son!  Frank has been a resident of Oasis almost from the very beginning.

Oasis intervened on Frank’s behalf just before he was scheduled to become an ingredient for stew.

Frank is a loyal and ardent protector of Oasis.  No one is allowed entry unless they pay a toll – a vanilla crème cookie – definitely his preference over carrots.

Even more than cookies, Frank’s joy comes from ramming people’s butts.  After a Yogic experience, Frank became known by his cosmic name “Ram-Ass”. His mantra is “Be gone now.”

  Gulliver
Sponsor Me

Gulliver

Gulliver has traveled to and fro, hither and yon.  Along the way he developed feline leukemia but that has not dampened his zest for going places.  Gulliver knows no boundaries.  He has wandered all over the specialized feline leukemia cat house and even  beyond.

He even actually managed to escape to the roof during last Christmas season and would simply not come down. Gulliver actually appeared to be quite happy and cozy in the little nest he built on the roof – just him and the pigeons.  He has since come down and is now enjoying a comfortable life in the leukemia house along with four other feline leukemia friends.

  Hamiltonia
Sponsor Me

Hamiltonia

She's got one of the best smiles in dogdom! Hamiltonia is all sweetness and spunk, tons of love and affection packed inside a 40-lb. American Bulldog/Terrier mix. This playful, energetic seven-year-old loves people and will prove it with endless kisses. Hamiltonia was found on the Hamilton Avenue in Brooklyn, stopping traffic with her good looks and cab-dodging style. A police officer came to her rescue and whisked her off to safety. She has since blossomed into a healthy, free-spirited girl who's looking for someone to give her the home she's always longed for. She is good with most dogs, so a canine roommate should be just fine. Cats are iffy-- A feline-free home would be best.

  Humphrey
Sponsor Me

Humphrey

…and the summer of love

Originally Humphrey was nameless. Humphrey came from a rabbit hunting family who no longer wanted him.  He had no home and no name. One day shortly after Oasis rescued him we took him for a walk down the street.

We strolled past the doorman and the dog “assumed the position” on the doorman’s leg. Sometime later we wandered into a grocery store where again he did the nasty on the grocer’s calf. After being asked to leave we stopped to ask a policeman for directions and Humphrey, without warning, climbed up the cop's blue pant leg and began shamelessly pounding away...

Suddenly Suddenly the perfect name occurred to us  – Humphrey.Humphrey is amorous to say the least, but if you are prudish he is not the one for you.

  Matisse
Sponsor Me

Matisse

Mattise is nothing less than a work of art.  This beautiful boy lived a tough life, lost his human mommy to illness and then subsequently lost his leg to cancer.

This three-legged treasure graces Oasis with his inspiring presence.  If you would like to be a patron of the arts, please sponsor Mattise.

  Sugar
Sponsor Me

Sugar

He's one beautiful boy. Five-year-old Spice and her handsome four-year-old son, Sugar, were abandoned by their original owners. They've been together their whole lives and we are hoping to find a home for them together. Sugar is larger than Spice, weighs about 70 lbs. He and Spice do everything together-- play, eat, sleep, take naps. They are both loyal and protective. Sugar is the more outgoing of the two. He's a friendly, free-spirited dog, but still needs a little time to feel comfortable with new people. Once he accepts you as one of his pack, you'll get an enthusiastic greeting, complete with big wet kisses, every time he sees you. Sugar and Spice love the country, love to run and would love to finally have their very own family.

Spice

She's strikingly beautiful, with thick golden-red fur and dark eyes. Five-year-old Spice and her handsome four-year-old son, Sugar, were abandoned by their original owners. They've been together their whole lives and we are hoping to find a home for them together. Spice is smaller than Sugar, weighs about 60 lbs. She and Sugar do everything together-- play, eat, sleep, take naps. They are both loyal and protective. Spice needs time to feel comfortable with new people, but once she accepts you as one of the pack, you'll get a warm, friendly tail-wagging greeting every time she sees you. Sugar and Spice love the country, love to run and would love to finally have their very own family.

  Mr. Trumble
Sponsor Me

Mr. Trumble

He looks and acts like a giant puppy, but he's more than meets the eye. One and 1/2 year old Mr. Trumble is a spunky, strong 75-lb. Chocolate Lab/Terrier mix with sweet brown eyes and flop-over ears. He's very friendly and loves people, so he's not a good candidate for your security team. He'd rather welcome visitors into the house than play guard dog. Mr. Trumble knows basic commmands and is working on leash training. He's playful and active, and also likes to cuddle up, rest his head on your lap and gaze up into your eyes while you scratch him behind his ears. Good with most dogs, not with cats. He's housetrained, up to date with vaccinations, neutered, and ready to meet his forever family.

  Phoenix
Sponsor Me

Phoenix

This one-year-old terrier mix puppy greets visitors with loads of enthusiasm. Phoenix is very playful, loves to ride around in the car, and has already shown great loyalty to his human friends. Phoenix is a beautiful boy, but when first found, tied up outside a rescuer's office, we weren't sure what he looked like. One bubble bath later, we saw his white coat with distinctive dark chocolate markings. He's getting to know his canine friends, and spends a lot of time with his foster Dad. He's learning basic commands, and is already housetrained.

Dijereedo
Sponsor Me

Dijereedoo

He's one good-looking boy. Dijereedoo is a pure bred Australian Shepherd. He's quite big at 75 lbs., but not as big as he looks due to a beautiful thick, fluffy coat. While he's great with the Oasis staff and people he knows, he can be aggressive with those he does not know and must be carefully introduced to new people. Dijereedoo is 7 years old, neutered and housetrained. He is good with most other dogs, but not cats.

  Slava
Sponsor Me

Slava

This character was top dog in a Kalukrainian clown troupe.  In a matter of months the troupe’s success had Slava touring the world. Unfortunately Slava’s meteoric rise to fame was also the platform for his precipitous descent into a life of drugs and debauchery. As Slava’s fame grew so did the pressure. The life of all–night- howling-at-the-moon-parties and being hounded by the puparazzi on a daily basis was too much for him. Seeking refuge from his demanding life style poor Slava eventually disappeared into the dark corners of addiction. After many years he surfaced in a Coney Island side-show where he was billed as, Slava the “scum dog: The most self-hating dog on earth. Alas, much of which was true.

Luckily Slava was rescued by Oasis; a place where he found kindred spirits as well as a new path in life. After sometime Slava was back to his old self and had become so grateful to Oasis that he decided to stay on as the resident clown. Slava has made us laugh through the years. He is a fine example of a funny and loving critter.

Though Slava lives at Oasis he occasionally needs to travel to auditions. If you would like to help fund his clowning career please sponsor Slava today.

  Myrna
Sponsor Me

Myrna

Myrna was found wandering near the Delaware River during a nor’easter alongside her zany puppy Pagliacci. Oasis received a call that this mother and son pair was braving the storm in search of safe haven. Well their quest ended at Oasis sanctuary. The Oasis staff took them in and gave them a fluff dry, a warm bed and a hot meal. Subsequently Myrna found a home for her son but decided to stay at Oasis. Originally the new family was set to take both of them but Myrna showed her disapproval by hiding behind Eddie’s legs and staying there. We got the picture. In the spirit of Oasis’s sober environment Myrna has opted to deal with her issues drug- free there is no anxiety for this lil girl anymore. With a lot of love and acceptance Myrna leads a full and normal life with Eddie at Oasis--. just don’t try to take him away from her.

  Lois
Sponsor Me

Lois

She was cared for by a colorful off-beat denizen of the night. This lovely sweet Belgian Shepard mix was taken in by a Brooklyn girl who turned tricks for treats. When there was a crackdown on her “business” she could no longer afford to keep Lois.

One day soon after the crackdown the lady strolled over to a construction site where she was told that the workers there also cared for animals. She pleaded with them to take Lois because as she put it: “Where I’m going no dogs are allowed”. After listening to the lady’s plight, Oasis was contacted and a decision was made to welcome Lois.

Lois is the belle of Oasis. Everybody loves her including the people who wash her almost everyday. You see, Lois has a bladder problem where her chronic leakage keeps plumbers on call everyday. If you want to help Lois with her piping woes you can by sponsoring this wonderful albeit wet critter.
