Transformation of a Man & a Van Soon after, a series of major changes took place. Eddie became a vegetarian, quit a 20-year smoking habit (because the smoke caused his new cat to cough), and began participating in the animal advocacy community, carrying the message of compassion for all animals every chance he could. With every rally, every march, every demonstration and outreach event, Eddie grew more and more aware of the power of a visual image in conveying the plight of animals in today’s society. He also grew more aware of how little the public knew about the exploitation and abuse of animals in various industries, such as factory farming, entertainment, medical research and the fur and fashion business. The idea of a visual van came to mind, and he started developing the idea of a mobile unit equipped with video monitors and an audio system. Within a few months, the FaunaVision van was designed, built and on the streets of NYC.
The award-winning documentary, The Witness chronicles Eddie's journey from a violent world to a life of compassion and animal advocacy. This unique, indelible 43-minute documentary has been called "the most persuasive and important documentary film ever made."
