Farewell to a Beloved Sanctuary

Dear Animal Advocates and Friends of Oasis:

This is one of the saddest times of my life.  After ten years as a bastion for animals, saving and sheltering countless numbers of precious critters, Oasis Sanctuary is closing.

Since the very beginning, Oasis has been home to animals that otherwise had no other place to go.  Our wonderful 'D-List' critters have included fighters, biters, 'pee-ers 'n poopers' alongside the blind, the crippled, and the crazy.

Eddie and one of his beloved dogsThe closing of Oasis is largely prompted by decreasing donations and loss of contributors – our primary source of funding.  As part of our endeavor to keep Oasis up and running, I have nearly exhausted all of my personal assets. In fact, over the last year or so, Oasis has continually struggled to sustain its activities, yet always without compromising its high standards regarding love, care, and compassion for the animals.

Although we excelled in rescuing and sheltering animals and in promoting animal awareness, we fell short in our fundraising capacity.  Consequently, Oasis is behind in property taxes, an estimated $30,000.  These taxes must be paid to stave off seizure and eventual county auction of the property. (A potential auction refers to PROPERTY only and does NOT mean seizure and auction of the animals).  Immediate payment of these back taxes would not only allow us more time to find homes for those animals not adopted or taken in by other 'No Kill' sanctuaries, but would also facilitate selling the property, currently on the market, which includes four buildings on two parcels of land.  The sale would in turn generate revenue to house and care for those animals still unplaced.

In a nutshell, Oasis has a big heart for its animals but limited financial resources to continue its mission.  While Oasis ceases operations as an active sanctuary, FaunaVision – an animal education organization – will pick up the ball and continue our outreach mission in caring for animals in a broader and different way.

Basically, this is what Oasis needs now:

  • Responsible individuals and like-minded organizations to adopt our cats and dogs (thankfully, the farm animals have all found permanent homes);
  • Immediate donations to help us cover $30,000 in back taxes; and
  • Continual financial support for sheltering and providing daily care for the unplaced animals.

We are indeed grateful to those who have hearkened to our pleas, and we thank everyone who has ever given a helping hand to an animal in need.

Sincerely
For the critters

Eddie Lama
