candlelight vigil held for NY's Carriage HorsesA candlelight vigil was held on the evening of Friday, Feb 8th to honor an eight-year old male carriage horse named Clancy who died behind closed doors at the Clinton Hill Stables of unknown causes.

Advocates from Oasis Sanctuary, Friends of Animals, and the Coalition to Ban Horse-Drawn Carriages gathered at Clinton Hill Stables in Manhattan to honor Clancy and the many others who die at the hands of the abusive and cruel carriage-horse industry and to urge our support for Tony Avella’s bill to ban horse-drawn carriages.

Our vigil attracted positive media coverage on a local network station.

The media came out to cover our vigil

A demonstration and press conference is planned for Valentine’s Day, February 14th, at 1 pm, a day when many people who are unaware of the inherent cruelty in carriage rides give business to the industry.

Advocates from Oasis, Friends of Animals and supporters will gather at Central Park South and 5th Avenue, where the horses and passengers line up for rides.

Say NO to Carriage HorsesOur presence will tell the truth: There is nothing romantic about animal cruelty.   We’ll stand with Valentine’s themed posters and flyers urging people to Have a Heart: Say No to Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides.

We will also restate our support of Tony Avella’s bill to ban horse-drawn carriages and urge the NYC Council to pass the bill before another horse dies or yet another horrific accident has to occur.
